Moreover, the Oda troops became knights wearing black armor. The Maeda Forces also became tribals, and the stage music "Endless Dance" was replaced with a new track named "Bramble's Scramble" (Bramble is Matsu's name in Devil Kings). Anegawa became much darker, having tribal designs, lost the cherry blossoms and the waters again became red. Odawara Castle has been turned into an ancient Egyptian style Castle, guarded by ancient Egyptian soldiers that were once samurais serving the Hojo. Yamazaki received completely revamped designs including a red sky with big moon, red waters and a dark European castle, completed with demon soldiers with bat wings who were originally the Akechi troopers.

Some battlefields and soldiers were heavily edited to fit the "devilish" and fantasy theme of the game. Additionally, attacking primed enemies is required to fill up the Basara (now called "Fury") gauge as opposed to simply hitting enemies, essentially making Basara Arts harder to come by. Primed enemies, whose health bars turn yellow, will be dealt multiple hits by a single attack, making it easier for higher combo chains to be achieved. While some characters have new attack animations, others have one of their special attacks made the priming attack.

The fighting system was also modified, adding an element called "Priming". The difficulty levels were shifted to make the game more difficult, with the Japanese Normal becoming Easy and Japanese Hard becoming Normal, and Easy rewards 30% less EXP and no 3rd+ weapons while Normal keeps the Japanese Normal reward. Four of the characters were made non-playable and various attacks were added, altered or made unavailable for players. Some significant gameplay changes were made to the Western versions of the game. The Basara gauge can be filled up by defeating enemies, and when full, the player can execute the character's "Basara Art", which is a series of strong attacks that also render the character invincible for a short amount of time. The players are given the options to use a character's normal attacks as well as special skills that can be unlocked gradually by leveling up in battle. The game is a hack 'n slash action game similar to Koei Tecmo's Dynasty Warriors series.
